Barbara carried out her doctoral researcher at the Institute of Biomaterials, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, under academic supervision of Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini. Her thesis was titled: “INTERFACIAL INTERACTIONS IN CALCIUM CARBONATE MATERIALS IN THE CONTEXT OF BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS”, and she also closely collaborated with the research group of Prof. Stephan Wolf, FAU. Barbara's work led to basic understanding of the behaviour of different crystalline forms of Ca carbonate in contact with simulated biological fluids. Examiner Prof. Boccaccini highlighted the outstanding research work carried out by Barbara and mentioned the extraordinary training opportunities that the NanoHeal Network provided during the project. He also acknowledged the partners in the NanoHeal Network who supported the project, in particular Prof. Boaz Pokroy, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, where Barbara spent a research period.
